Asiasource 2005, The 2nd day.

Body

I woke up at 8:30, Breakfast. morning ring.
Off to the localization track, I passed by the cafiteria, No money exchange yet!
Now, We are at the localization track, Each one is writing the word "free software" in his language.

Then we went according to the agenda.
When I was asked about the most important thing, I said that it's having localized documentation and man pages, And also extend it by having them on the web.
I heard an interresting opinion:

It's better to localize windows applications to get the users to use FLOSS, Then we can change to linux after a long time.
"A university decided to switch to linux, They replaced windows applications with FLOSS, then they installed linux, The trick was that linux is the default, and it'll boot faster and people'll try to play with it.
Now 90% are using linux.
When they went to the vender and asked him to install linux, The users started to panic."

A netcafee running on Linux with an Icon with "web browser" written under it, So no problems.
We must interfere with the end users using the function of the applications not the names.
They'll then know how to do it, Don't say: ximian, KDE, .... ! they'll start to panic.

At the end, Gunner came and told us that he sees that we should get people's hands on the keyboard instead of teaching them abstract concepts, So we decided that we'll have a night track at 11.

Off to food! I was lucky to find a non-spicy thing there "instead of white rice" Actually it was rice with some additions!
Well, I found 2 hot peppers, So It didn't complete!
As we aggreed on a meeting to discuss the night session, I had to go to the l10n "LocalizatioN" lab.
A guy, Named Fredrick "spelling ?" interviewed me at the localization lab, We talked about arabeyes.
He was also kind to give me 100 rubees as I am still having a problem with money exchange, Though they announced in the morning that the Cafeteria should take care of it, But the guys there didn't know anything.
So after we aggreed on the night session, I went to the Cafeteris to ask for cigarettes, I didn't find any, Perhaps I kept going there and asking many times that the guy felt pity! So he gave me one from his personal box!

So It was 4 already so I had to go to the main hut to see what's there about the afternoon sessions, I joined tomas's session about wireless, OK, The guy is great, But I want to see how to build an antenna via cans!
He talked about access points, How to set them up, About the range and line of site, And he said that wireless can't penetrate through ron, water and concrete, He talked a bit about security and he said that he'll talk more next session. I didn't have my laptop as I left it at the localization lab so I wasn't able to take notes, OH! And I filled all of the cam's memory so I wasn't able to take photos the last part of the session!
During the coffee break I decided to try the strange thing they eat with coffee, And guess what ? It was something similar to the egyptian "falafel", I took 2 and 2 cups of coffee with milk.

I went to the cafeteris and hey! I found cigarettes there! I took 2 boxes, The problem is that the box contains 10 cigarettes and that the strongest thing they have is still mild. Why didn't I get from the airport ? :| And it costs 30 rubees per box.

Now that I've decided to go to the office and ask Henda about the cam cover, And WOW! I found it there! COOL! Many thanks!
I went to the lab and took my laptop, I found a table and started to empty the cam.

Now that dinner was fine, I found a non-spicy vegetables, They had potatos too.

I was talking with a guy who is a visual basic coder, We aggreed that I'll teach him emacs, And convised him to learn python.

What did I do after dinner ? I guess I attended a "lecture" about a guy from malisia who used the internet and SMS to organize things and to collaborate with them. I was really there by mistake and I didn't understand anything. But when he was asked about the reason of success he answered that all of the bloggers there hide behind nicknames, He decided to use his real name, Publish his photo and his cellphone number so people can send him SMSes, He won't be listening to voice mail, And what do you know ? He didn't get even 1 hate SMS.

I didn't attend the play after that, I went to the lab as I was missing the ethernet packets ;-)

They had a problem with an external CD burner on ubuntu "the guys here use ubuntu for the PCs, And some are using it on their laptops"

It was approaching 11, So I left my laptop and went to the l10n lab for the night session, No one there. Bad!
I went back to my laptop and started writing, A girl came to ask me about the night session, I went again to the l10n lab and found no one, So I told here that it's cancelled and that she can have sweet dreams :-)
Now here I'm at the lab again finalizing this!
