Asiasource 2005, The 4th day.

Body

Hi again from India.
Sure I woke up at 8:30 and I was in a hurry to catch the breakfast, Though it seems that some people started to sing in a loud at 7:30 to wake people up. I completed sleeping after they finished.
So after breakfast we went to the track, Today's session was somehow practical, We introduced the people into Kbabel.
We also introduced them "Actually I've been introduced too ;-)" into 2 new things: The localization toolkit which is a project developed by one or two of them, The aim IMHO is to convert mozilla and openoffice weired things into po files so that people can easely translate them using the existing tools, Then convrt them back after translation. And the other thing is pootle, Which basically a translation web interface.
Both are written in python, I think I should have a more detailed look and see whether I can join the development somehow, Me and Jafier "spelling ?" Which is a spanish guy living in ....... "can't remember!"Anyway, We aggreed that if we meet in Africasource 2 we'll try to bring a water pipe "shisha in Arabic ;-)".
So after the track, We had a bazar from 2:30, I went there after Lunch, But I didn't find anything to do. I think the idea is that each group of people start doing anything they want. I was at the lab trying to fetch my +900 email messages, But I failed.
We had to shhets of paper, You are supposed to write the website of your organization and your own website, And You are supposed to write free software and opensource software in your language,I went and wrote there.
I asked Marek about the outings signup sheets, He said that they removed them, We'll go out tomorrow and either visit a schools or the IT sector in Bangalore, Marek came after that And asked me, I answered "IT"!

OK, We've been told that we'll have a session on wireless antenna building, So I decided that I'll join that. I don't really remember the other sessions, But The great Tomas Krag is really damn interresting.
After he introduced us to the different types of antennas which didn't understand well, What I know is that our antenna is a wave guide antenna as it guides the wave into it. We started building our own, He had 1 actually to show us ;-)

I didn't build the antenna in the beginning, people built the antennas, then Tomas was testing them and YAY! They worked although the can was somehow short, He started explaining them the placement of antennas which I didn't really understans.
But what I know is that with this antenna you can get a 3 kilometers distance! But they must be oriented towards each other.

So after the session I decided to build my own one. I'll tell you what I've done though the measurements'll be different from a can to another. You create a whole in the can measuring 44.4 millimeters from the base, You then solder a 31 millimeters copper wire on the N-type connector, Using 4 screws you attach it to the can and that's it!
Use a pig cable to connect it to your wireless card!
Actually there is a way to connect it to the access point itself but I forgot.

I know that you can get a massive signal if you attach it to a satellite dish! Maybe I'll get an old one oneday and do it.

So I went to eat, The food was really great, They had watermillon too!

Now here I'm at the lab trying to download my email and writing this, There is an open evening on some weired shit which won't understand "something about the TBD "WTH is that ??"

I've been unable to download my +1000 emails, Simply because someone is downloading something from sourceforge and was sucking alone 60% of the bandwidth, Disabling SSL for pop did improve it a little.
So I decided to run fetchmail and whenever it stopps, I'm going to telnet to the pop3 server and delete them manually and resume after that.
I played part of the "we'll rock you song", Remember the morning song at 7:30 they tried to use to wake us up with ? "we'll walk you", I started to be offensive to windows users by playing part of the "windows 95 sucks", I showed them developers.mpg and dancemonkeyboy.mpg featuring steff Balmer!

After some time... The connection seems better now as it seems that the guy was eaten by mosquitoes :-)
We've been playing bzflag for a while now, And it seems that the email download is really working fine.
The email download finished! GREAT, Now I have to filter the duplicates :|
