Mother Teresa

I don't know how can this be true, I don't think that I'm a leader, But I like to give.

Accept it ?

Submitted by msameer on Mon, 15/11/2004 - 4:30am

Apologies Accepted now after Sorry Everybody and We Are Not Sorry. Sorry Sorry Sorry, What the hell ? Does it really matter ? Or what'd this change ?
Yes guys good/bad feelings, Now what ? what has changed ? what'd change ? We are as we are, You are as you are.
I'm supposed to be - in my own opinion - one of the first people to feel what you are saying/doing and to be affected by the good thing you've done, And to realize that there is nothing you can do except this.
But I find myself unable to do this. To feel sorry is a good thing, But the people dying out there due to Bush's stupidities are still dying. The people being killed are still being killed, The people being tortured are still in the same situation. The people you, not you! occupied their lands are still suffering.
No guys I'm unable to accept such an apology, Maybe people like me are not meant by your apology. But still I am unable to accept it.
I don't know since when do I care about other people suffering that much, But there is something strange in my mind these days and REALLY i don't know what the hell it's. Anyway, What you can do is to say sorry, And what I can do is say guys, I fully appreciate it, And Thanks for feeling sorry, And I'm sorry for what I've said earlier.
I know where I want to go, And I'll be there oneday, Thanks guys.

New 21 and Fontconfig.

Submitted by msameer on Sun, 14/11/2004 - 6:01pm

It all started in mansheiet naser when we were installing the lab.
The LAN server was installed by alaa, Alaa did an update, and installed windows fonts.
Then we did a reboot because we installed an updated kernel.
And here comes the bad part...
X starts then exits, Nothing wrong in the logs, Yet kdm doesn't start, Oh come on!
Maybe it's the DRI ? disable dri ? switch the driver to vesa ? No way, The piece of iron won't let X start.
X starts fine, So it's not an X problem.
Maybe a memory corruption ? memtest86 didn't find anything.
I was away trying configuring mplayer to work fine with arts, When I came back Alaa noticed that only Gtk and Qt apps are affected, He thought it might be a font problem, Running fc-cache -f -v as I suggested caused a segfault when trying to parse the windows fonts directory.
Nice, Now how to know the font causing the problem ? Ezabi noted the core file, I said run gdb, Alaa said run strings and it was it, the New_21.ttf file.
The segfault ir reproducable on both Mandrake 10.1 Official and Debian sarge.
running fc-cache under gdb, I obtained the following backtrace:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

here is the bug report.
I'm not that experienced with fontconfig otherwise i'd have tried to fix it.
Anyway, This is a proof that I have all the rights to hate Xft/fontconfig ;-)

Me cooking ?

Submitted by msameer on Sun, 14/11/2004 - 4:19am

ince I'm home alone these days, And I didn't eat anything since yesterday except chocolates I found in the freezer :-), I decided to cook because I realized that I'll die out of hunger!
Not talking about much details, But I've invented new theories regarding cooking and new methods to cook.
The strange thing that I was somehow a good cooker a few years ago.
Though the results were not good as I've expected due to some mistakes I did! But I have a full stomach now thank God, And I have something to eat when I'm hungry.
Did you understand anything from what I've said ? ;-)
Anyway hearing the near mosque preparing for Eid praying makes the one feel better.

Happy Feast all.

Submitted by msameer on Sat, 13/11/2004 - 7:59pm

So it's the feast ? I don't know, But I don't feel anything special about it except that I'll be able to eat whenever I want :-)
Am I supposed to feel happy ? Maybe cause I generally have a crappy mood.
Anyway, I'm spending these days alone, All of my family are not in Egypt, I think I'll spend the next feast alone too, As I'll be the one outside Egypt ISA.
Anyway, Happy fest all people out there.

IE shit and CSS

Submitted by msameer on Sat, 13/11/2004 - 1:59am

Here's a quick one, I don't know whether it's my fault or Redmond people's fault.
Simply, I decided to try foolab under IE, And what the hell, The mission statement block had borders and a background color, I had to explicitly tell IE not to add a border and not to use a background color.
Now the killer thing was that the blocks are not displayed correctly, After trying to figure out why, I realised that IE IGNORED the comments starting with "//" in the CSS, Now someone tell me why the shit is this happening ?
So I had to erase the line: "// width: 100%;" though it's a comment!

I took this test long ago, before I had my blog. I remembered it when I saw it in Arafat's blog, So I took it again, And the same result. HURD!
You are GNU/HURD. You feel like your life is incomplete. If you answer all of the questions you might get better results.
Which OS are You?

I'm flashy ?

Submitted by msameer on Fri, 12/11/2004 - 8:19pm
You are .swf You are flashy, but lack substance. You like playing, but often you are annoying. Grow up.
Which File Extension are You?

I don't like this, These gays are suckerz
Anyway, I took the test again But I didn't answer the questions I found no answer that'd fit me, and here is the result. You are .bak. You are a life saver, but you're not always around. Not enough people utilize your skills, because they think you're a waste of space.

Back to python

Submitted by msameer on Fri, 12/11/2004 - 6:51am

So, I started reading Dive Into Python.
The 1st real code I wrote was rewriting my irc bot in python, Though there are some features missing and the code is not that good, But It's my 1st python code. I think I'll start zope after reading the OO chapter.

Drupal behaving like GNOME ?

Submitted by msameer on Sun, 07/11/2004 - 9:56pm

So they broke the usability of one of their modules, Saying that the new theme hooks doesn't allow the feature to add a link to the primary links when creating a page as it used to be in drupal 4.4 ?
I have to add them manually ? SHIT.

And NO, I won't no more "use wordpress || plone" suggestions!
